PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
